HEWI volunteers, with our energetic partners from Year 3 Healesville Primary
School, their buddies from Cummins Filtration and Yarra Ranges Bushland crew
planted another 2,000 indigenous seedlings along the Wirrup Yaluk in mid
June. This infill planting was an essential replacement for some weedy
sections along the creek in which a Platypus was observed recently. HEWI
chairman Steve Meacher opened the session with our acknowledgement of the
Wurundjeri People, the original custodians of this region, followed by a
demonstration of the planting techniques that will ensure maximum survival
rates of the new plants. Following our barbeque lunch provided by Melbourne
Water, Steve also closed the day with presentations to all our active
participants.
